LBD for OTH!

IMG_7017_editedIt was a milestone birthday for my hubby this year, he turned forty. I remember when thirty was old, now forty seems super young, LOL. I love to throw parties and celebrate birthdays in style but that is not him. He preferred to have dinner, just the two of us, and have a low-key evening. He works in sales and is around people all the time and we have a two-year-old, quiet nights are special.IMG_7042_editedI was trying to decide what to wear for his “over the hill” birthday and of course it had to include black. I love LBD’s because they can be worn for almost any occasion. With this one in particular, I have seriously lowered my cost per wear! I have worn this to a birthday party, a wedding, night out with the girls, a graduation, and now a date night. It’s no secret that the LBD is a classic and versatile item that should be in every girl’s closet.IMG_7044_editedAccessorizing the LBD can change the look of it completely! I wore the dress with my birthday present, my very first pair of Louboutin’s! I was seriously Loca for Louboutins and I finally have a pair of my own! These are not everyday mom on-the-go shoes but do work well for the rare nights out. I added my heart Kate Spade bag and of course a firetruck red lip.IMG_7033_editedMy hubs and I enjoyed our evening together. We did a dinner and show combo downtown. We attempted to have some drinks after but ended up back at home by eleven – even though we were kid-free for the evening. He and I are no longer the night owls we used to be, but still appreciated an evening alone. My fortieth is not for a while but I hope it’s just as entertaining!

What to Wear: Networking Lunch

Networking has been a huge part of my life ever since I can remember. It began in high school for certain school organizations, continued in college, and is now in full force as a career woman. It is such a big part of my everyday life and I believe it’s important to network not only for your career but for yourself. The value of a vast network is immeasurable.

I attend 3 networking events a week at a minimum. That sounds like a lot to some people but I work in an industry where my job is to network and build relationships. Most of this is done during the day because as a working mom, most evenings are at home with my little one. So what do I wear to networking lunches?

I follow a couple of simple rules for networking events.

  1. Wear something your feel confident in – when you feel good you exude confidence.
  2. Wear something you are comfortable in- the last thing you need to be worried about is constantly adjusting yourself.
  3. Wear shoes you don’t mind walking and/or standing for long periods of time in.
  4. Dress professionally – nothing too tight, low cut, or short.
  5. Wear something that is truly you- a statement necklace, handbag, or shoes.

For this particular event, I chose to wear my new cape blazer from the Target Who What Wear collection. This piece is the perfect combination of style and fun. It can dress up a pair of jeans and make a suit more fun. I paired it with a colored top, sassy shoes, big earrings, and a bright handbag to complete the look.

What are you wearing to your networking events?

A Fall-ish Look

24516n3

It’s below 80 degrees here so it’s officially fall in Texas. When it’s warm outside the thought of even a light jacket makes you sweat. When I want a Fall-ish look without the weight I wear darker hues and items with texture. I paired my ostrich feathers, camo,  and leopard for a full fall ensemble. My favorite accessory in this look is the cuff , it reads “Be confident. Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we are not. Everybody has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it is only when you accept everything you are — and are not — that you will truly be successful.” So true, could not have said it better myself!

5 Easy Things you can wear to have a Fall-ish look without the warmth:

  1. Darker Hues and Patterns
  2. Textured fabrics
  3. Vests
  4. Suede, Tweed, or Pony Hair Heels
  5. Scarves

What are some of your favorite fall accessories for warm climates?

Another busy work week and our annual conference over. My company has a relaxed business casual dress code so when we had our conference I decided to dress it up a bit with a classic black blazer. I added a touch of fun with the leopard belt, mixed patterns and a statement necklace. I enjoy adding color, sparkle and print as much as possible even to my work day outfits.

Mixing patterns can bring life to any outfit but you want to make sure you style it correctly. I found this article that can provide some general advice if you are interested in trying this for yourself: Article.

Happy Mixing,

The LBD is a great option for work and is so versatile. I love to add a girly touch to most of my outfits but you can pair this with anything- a leopard pump, pearls, strappy sandals in the summer and boots in the winter, a blazer for a more business professional look, or any statement necklace. This is a staple for any wardrobe – not matter what your profession or size.

I had the chance to visit South Texas recently for a family bridal shower and could not wait to wear my floral pumps. I didn’t get a chance to visit the beach but I still got to see a lot of palm trees and feel the HEAT!
